FIRE DAMAGES HOUSE

Couple Lose Possessions An elderly couple, Mr and Mrs E. A. Green, yesterday lost furniture, bedding and personal possessions in a fire which severely damaged the small house they live in at 145 Chester street. The fire began in the living room. Neighbours heard Mrs Green’s cries for help and the alarm was given at 2.33 p.m. Two engines from the nearby Headquarters Fire Station were at the house within a minute, but the flames had a good hold.

Firemen had the blaze under control within a few minutes. The living-room was gutted and other rooms made uninhabitable. Mr and Mrs Green were not injured.
