The Bridle Path
Sir,—Horse talk in Saturday’s paper descended from an interesting article to an abuse of Agricultural and Pastoral associations and judges, which was in extremely bad taste. Judges give up their day, to judge in their opinion from the centre of the ring, not what the public want from the outside. Many A. and P. spectators prefer round-the-ring jumping rather than F.E.I. The working hunter class is a poor variation of round-the-ring jumping which the correspondent condemns. If the writer of the article only knew, the hit-and-hurry course at the Rangiora Show was most suitable as it culled out horses that should not be doing hit-and-hurry. If the devotees of F.E.I. could draw the crowds that A. and P. shows do they would be in a position to criticise kindred organisations.—Yours, etc., STRAIGHT TALK. October 30, 1965.
