Baptists To Beam Talks To East
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. A series of 5-minute broadcasts beamed from Radio Manila to Asian countries will be sponsored by the Auckland Association of Baptist Churches.
The Auckland association said at the annual assembly of the Baptist Union of New Zealand at Lower Hutt today that many young persons listened to the broadcasts to improve their English. CALL FOR SUPPORT Discussing the union’s annual report, the Rev. T. G. Fear, of the Auckland City
Mission, said more support should be given to social service projects and training. “The word of the church today seems to be, ‘Come, come to our church—it’s friendly, we have short sermons, sentimental music, and sweet choir girls’,” he said. “Jesus in his commission said, ‘Go.’ Go and become involved with people—the prostitutes, the emotionallydisturbed, the alcoholic, the prison inmate, and disabled and retarded.” SUNDAY SCHOOLS
The day when parents sent their children to Sunday school was rapidly passing, said the Rev. A. L. Silcock, presenting the report of the Board of Christian Education. Parents no longer valued the work of the Sunday school and did not feel that the attendance of their children was necessary, he said. “This challenge must be met by improved teaching, planning and administration to provide the kind of Christian education programme which will commend itself to parents generally,” he said.
