Gerrard Two Wins In Queensland

fN.Z. Presa Aasociatlon) BRISBANE. The New Zealand Davis Cup player, L. A. Gerrard, and his partner, R. Taylor (England), were most impressive in beating the Queenslanders, L. Butler and R. Curtiss, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, in the Queensland tennis championships. Gerrard showed excellent form at the net when Taylor was pounding down his best service.

Gerrard and Taylor now play the Australian, K. Fletcher, who is officially representing Hong Kong, and a young Chinese, J. Sung, also from Hong Kong, in the second round. Gerrard and the New Zealand junior, B. Fairlie, both won their first round singles matches on Friday. Gerrard beat the Queenslander, K. Winterburn, 6-2,

6-3, 6-2, while Fairlie had a walk-over against M. Rickards (Queensland), Among the first round winners were the Americans, C. Graebner, A. Ashe, C. Richey, M. Riessen and J. McManus.

Richey was overcome by the 90 degree heat in his first round match against T. Addison.

Richey, who only arrived at Brisbane on Friday night, won the first two sets, 6-2, 6-4, but went down in the third, 3-6. After the match, he said that the heat had affected him and he had felt sick during the fourth set. Even so, he battled on and won the fourth set, 6-4.
