Church 50 Years Old

The fiftieth anniversary of St Mary’s Anglican Church. Cooper’s Creek, was marked recently by a social function on the Saturday and a thanksgiving service on the Sunday. The Saturday evening activities in the Cooper’s Creek Hall included a parade of costumes in vogue at the time of the church’s opening. The walls of the hall were decorated with a variety of displays, including watches dating from the early 1800 s. On Sunday, the church was overflowing for the thanksgiving service. Many persons were accommodated in a nearby marquee to which the service was relayed. The service was followed by a buffet luncheon and later afternoon tea. During the afternoon people had the opportunity to meet informally.

The service was conducted by the vicar of the OxfordCust Parish (the Rev. M. I. May) and a former vicar (the Rev. G. H. Schurr. The anniversary cake was cut by Mrs K. Bowman, formerly Miss L. Frahm, who was the first person baptised in the church.
