MALVERN
Innings Win By Kirwee
Kirwee took the lead in the Malvern cricket competition on Saturday when it scored an innings victory against South Malvern.
The former Canterbury Rugby representative, R. Morris, batted forcefully for Kirwee in making 88. He was given able support by E. Frew and G. Wright, and Kirwee was able to declare.
South Malvern, needing 160 to make Kirwee bat again, crumbled in the face of accurate bowlings by J. Dysart. His right-arm medium-paced deliveries brought him eight wickets for only 30 runs—the best analysis in the sub-association this season.
P. Blakeley, the Malvern firststring fast bowler, took five for 31 for Hororata, and Sheffield’s prolific scorer, K. Howarth, scored a patient 80 against Darfield. Points after two rounds are: Kirwee 13, Hororata 10, Sheffield 8, Darfield 6, Greendale 4, South Malvern 1. Scores:— Kirwee 252 for six wickets declared (R. Morris 88, E. Frew 62. G. Wright 60 not out: G. Nimnio two for 71. R. Stuart two for 61) beat South Malvern 92 and 159 (O. Stuart 37. B. McGregor 32, G. Nimmo 30 not out: J. Dysart eight for 30) by an innings and one run.
