OPENING OF NEW MALL
Executive Of Merchants Details of the official opening of Riccarton Mall by the Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine) on Tuesday afternoon and its opening for business on Wednesday were discussed at a meeting yesterday afternoon of the Riccarton Mall Merchants' Association. The meeting elected Mr N. Fairweather as the chairman of the association. Mr L. Hobson is deputy chairman, and Mrs P. N. Wallace, the secretary. Other members of the executive are Messrs G. Sneddon, W. G. Olliver. D. N. Davies and A. Bain, with Messrs R. R. Livingstone and Mrs Wallace representing the mall management, and Mrs Wallace as liaison officer between the management and the tenants. One of the problems discussed by the meeting was that of getting an adequate rubbish clearance before the opening as masses of packing cartons and other debris will have to be removed.
Bridge Widening.—A tender by M. M. Mitchell of £10,935 has been accepted for widening of the Stoney creek bridge on the Kaikoura-Oaro section of State highway No. 1
