No Decision On Trade Fairs
(Special Correspondent N Z P.A J LONDON, October 29. Delay in receiving a linal Government decision on the European trade fairs in which New Zealand will participate during 1966 is causing anxiety at the London office of the Meat Board.
It is understood that a programme of participation in three trade fairs has been tentatively approved by the
Department of Industries and Commerce in Wellington, but confirmation is still awaited. When questioned about New Zealand’s participation in trade fairs next year, a spokesman for the board said he was “extremely anxious” to know what the position was because of the time factor involved in making arrangements for the first fair —including the booking of exhibition space and the ordering of meat. It is understood that the New Zealand Trade Commissioner’s office in London agreed to recommend the board's three-fair proposal to its head office in Wellington on September 29. At another meeting, on October 6, the trade office told the board that it had reported to Wellington. The fair programme was coupled with a request for approval to proceed with the normal arrangements. Last week, it is believed, the board was informed by the trade office that the department in Wellington had given its approval. Questioned in Wellington on Thursday, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said the matter had not come before Cabinet and was not scheduled to do so. He said he understood no decisions or proI gramme had yet been made or worked out.
