NOTIFIABLE DISEASES

8 Cases Of Dysentery

The incidence of bacillary dysentery did not appear to be increasing, in spite of the numbers reported in the notifiable diseases list, said the Christchurch medical officer of health (Dr. J. F. Jepson) yesterday. Eight cases were reported in the Christchurch health district last week.

‘‘lt is a .worry,” said Dr. Jepson, “but I think we’re holding our own. Several of the cases reported were in the same family, so the numbers are not really so large.

“The disease, which is entirely dependent on personal hygiene, is prevalent throughout the country."

The eight persons affected last week were a woman in her thirties, two women in their twenties, two young girls and two young boys, all in the city area, and a young girl in the Waimairi county. There were also three cases of infective hepatitis—a man in his thirties and a youth in the city area, and a man of unknown age in the Waimairi county. A baby boy in the Paparua county had pemphigus neonatorum, and a .woman in her forties and a woman in her twenties in the city area had non-respiratory tuberculosis.
