Some Good Advances At Start Of Short Week

Some worthwhile gains were made in trading yesterday at the start of the short week after the Labour Day holiday week-end. The market was firm with twice as many rises as falls over-all, but the strength came mainly from the overseas list.

New Zealand Refrigerating' dividend deferred rose 6d to 12s and the notes 9d to 13s. Andrews and Beaven sold lid up at 43s 6d in first ex dividend sales and Autocrat gained 6d to 14s 6d. On the New Zealand rights market F.A.C., N.A.F., McKendrick, J. Burns, Wilson Cement and I Winstone eased. Best upward moves among Australian shares were made by Colonial Sugar rights, up 9d to 245. E.Z. Industries, up lid to 20s 2d, W. R. Carpenter. up Is to 225, and Mount Isa, up another lOd to 35s Id. B.H.P. rights lost 5d to 23s 2d.
