MOTUKARARA NEXT FOR CASTLE FLIGHT
The Wingatui-trained Captain’s Command and Castle Flight crossed from Wellington on Monday night and were taken south yesterday, but they will return to Riccarton for the New Zealand Cup meeting next month.
Captain’s Command is now one of the fancies for the New Zealand Derby after a close third in the Wellington Guineas.
Castle Flight was one of the most impressive of the unplaced lot in the Shorts Handicap. After starting “off the course" he came from well back on the inside for sixth almost in line with the second, third, fourth, and fifth horses. D. G. O’Neill will return to Riccarton with Castle Flight next week and will start him •gainst the sprinters at the Banks Peninsula meeting. The main mission for this •peedster at the New Zealand Cup meeting will be the Stewards’ Handicap on Cup day. The two-year-old Red Sash, •n expensive failure in the Wellesley Stakes at Trentham. •Iso returned to Wingatui yesterday. The Riccarton-trained Misjudge, another arrival from Wellington yesterday, will run •gainst the hack middle distance performers at Rangiora on Friday, and may be tried In open class in the Beehive Brandy Handicap on the second day of the North Canterbury meeting. C. T. Wilson will ride Misjudge in the Okuku Hack Handicap on Friday: also the unraced two-year-old Rival in the Fernside Nursery Handicap and Frolicsome in the Oxford Hack Handicap. Frolicsome will spend much of her week-end at Rangiora; she has been entered for the show there on Saturday, and will probably race again on Monday. Dowling’s Mounts The former Wingatui jockey, J. R. Dowling, will travel from the North Island to ride at Rangiora on Friday.
His mounts include Magic Ring, Desert Terror, and Hawkins, members of J. L. Barr’s team. The successful Wingatui horseman, E. J. Didham, will ride at Rangiora on Friday before going on to Trentham where he will ride Bastille, Bellition, Highland Fair, and Azir, all last-start winners in his father’s team. E. J. Didham's Rangiora mounts include Fieldmaster, Chow Maine, Seeaysee, Mountie Red, and Steve's Hope. Other riding engagements for Rangiora include: R. J. Skelton: Morris Francis, Gold View, Our Leigh, Clive Bank. G. W. Mein: Gold Find, Early Dawn, Summer Lad, Jacdor, Talic.
