No Amendment Of Act
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 19.
The Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine) told Parliament today that he would not consider amending the Transport Act to allow drivers during the stock season to work more than a total of 14 hours.
He was replying to Mr J. B. Gordon (Govt., Olutha), who asked if he would be prepared to do this so long as not more than 11 hours were spent in continuous driving. The Minister said the limitations were imposed in the interests of road safety and he was not prepared to recommend any general exemption from them.
May Run Casino.—The film producer, Carlo Ponti, husband of the actress Sophia Loren, was seeking a contract to run the Venice casino, according to city officials. They said he promised a large-scale campaign to expand Venice’s tourist trade in conjunction with the Venice Film Festival
