HELP RAISE FINANCE

An Olympic Society

Sports bodies throughout New Zealand will be asked soon what they think of a New Zealand Olympic society as a method of raising finance for games teams.

They will be asked to support a scheme to launch the society as a money-making device for the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association. Mr L. W. Woods said that such a scheme had already been introduced to New Zealand. A company had been farmed to put on operas and an opera society to raise the finance. He said that individuals could become members of the Olympic society at a cost of £1 and it would give them certain privileges, including the right to book seats for the games through the association. Mr Woods said there was no reason why the society could not have 50,000 members.

To Attend Annual Feis

About 200 members of the Christchurch Irish National Society, with members of the society’s pipe band, will travel by sea and air to the North Island at the Labour Day week-end to attend the fifteenth annual feis (or festival of Irish culture and sport) which is, for the first time, to be held in Lower Hutt.

The feis is being organised by the Lower Hutt Irish National Society, which is the youngest Irish society in New Zealand. The feis will be attended by many members from other New Zealand Irish societies.
