Hotel Standards
Sir, —Recently I had to be away from home for one day; and a fortnight previously 1 wrote and booked a double room at a hotel—to arrive before dinner and to leave before dinner next afternoon. I had to leave the hotel immediately after breakfast, and something after 11 the bedroom telephone rang, my wife answered it, and a woman's voice said: “You have to vacate your room.” “But we are staying for lunch.” The voice said very firmly: “It doesn’t matter; you have to get out, it’s the rule.” I knew the charge would be £7 a day, but I fondly imagined we would have the use of our bedroom till after the last booked meal. This is the type of treatment guaranteed to leave a nasty taste in one’s mouth. No wonder overseas tourists criticise. It's motels for me in future.—Yours, etc., PINPRICKED. October 18, 1965.
