THE KIWI SYMBOL
Response Good
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 19. The information officer for the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation (Mr E. G. A. Frost) told the annual meeting of the New Zealand Furniture Manufacturers’ Federation today that 100 manufacturing firms had
said they would incorporate the Kiwi symbol in
their labels.
Mr Frost said his federation, which is sponsoring the campaign urging manufacturers to use the Kiwi symbol to identify their goods, had sent circulars to 3000 firms. Of the 100 who had so far replied, 60 letters came from Auckland manufacturers. As the time of sending the circulars was staggered —they
were posted to the South Island only last week—a far greater response was still expected.
Already, Mr Frost said, the symbol was appearing on some New Zealand-made goods and it was to be the general theme for next year's Easter show in Auckland.
The idea of the symbol was to bring home to the New Zealand public what the manufacturers were producing, Mr Frost said. It would also be used for export goods.
