TROTTING DOCTOR BARRY IN DEMAND

Doctor Barry will be strongly supported to make amends for three recent defeats when he contests the Qualifying Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addingtton Raceway tonight.

This is the first leg of the T.A.B. double, and is a race which includes a number of horses trying to qualify for the New Zealand Cup next month.

Doctor Barry has had a chance to freshen up since he broke at the start and failed to make a showing; in the Ashburton Flying Stakes. One of his peak runs would give him a great chance of success. '

He will again be bracketed with Peerswick, a brilliant sprinter and a winner under free-for-all conditions at Hutt Park last month. Disband looked a shade unlucky when beaten narrowly by Lauder Scott at Forbury Park on Saturday night. Her finishing run was more in keeping with the splendid form she showed last season. If she has taken no harm from that run. she should make Doctor Barry work hard for a win.

Space Cadet finished fifth at Forbury Park after receiving a poor run on the inside. He is much better than that effort suggested, and it will not surprise if he is prominent.

Bellajily, Bonnieburn and Cloudage are three other capable pacers on the limit, but they should be held quite safely by G'.enurquhart, which is certain to do better on the firmer footing expected at Addington than he did at Forbury Park on Saturday.

Landlord, Bruce and Wendy Dawn form a likely trio for the second leg, the October Handicap, which will be run over 10 furlongs. This race will mark the reappearance of Golden Oriole, one of the top three-year-olds of last season. If forward enough, she could be too speedy for most in the race. Happy Sam! Forshy and Quesnel are three others entitled to consideration. An on-course double will be run on the Raceway Stakes, for four-year-olds, and the Committee Handicap, Doug's Choice and Mister Chips forming a likely combination. Fair weather is forecast and the track should be in good order. 5.20 p.m.— NOVICE STAKES NO. 1, £300; 2:20 class; Um. Alray (12), K. D.
