Girl Brought Out On Stretcher
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 17. An 18-year-old girl tramper was carried out of the Waitakere ranges today on an improvised stretcher after spending Saturday night alone in the bush.
The girl, Miss Sandra Mary Anderson, a typist, of Rocky Nook avenue, Morningside, a member of the Auckland Tramping Club, was treated at Auckland Hospital this evening for shock and exposure and sent home.
Miss Anderson, who could not walk because of effects of exposure, was found in the Kakamatua Valley between Parau and Hula, just after noon today. She had set out at 10 am. on Saturday to hike along a bush track between Parau and Huia, a two hour and a half tramp, but left the track and fell down a bank.
She spent the night under a tree trunk but found she was unable to walk this morning. After she failed to arrive at Huia her father. Mr C. A J. Anderson, organised a search which lasted until midnight. About 55 police, trampers and Auckland City Council rangers, including the police
search and rescue squad, resumed the search early today. After finding her the searchers made a stretcher out of branches and parkas to carry her about three miles to the Titirangi-Huia road.
