PAVILION BURNT

AUCKLAND, Oct. 17.

When Mount Roskill Bowling Club members turned up for a championship fixture yesterday, they found that fire had wrecked their pavilion. The club president (Mr P. Hickey) said the damage, estimated at £4OOO, was particularly upsetting, because next week-end the club would be host to 32 teams from other clubs for the annual Mount Roskill Memorial Cup tournament.

“The tournament will definitely be held,” Mr Hickey said. A resident near the club notified the fire brigade of the blaze shortly before 3 a.m. The fire ruined a carpet and furniture bought only three weeks ago. They were insured for £350.

The honours boards of the 12-year-old club and 10 sets of bowls, worth about £lO a set, were destroyed.
