GYROCOPTER FLIGHT
Auckland-Made Machine
••Th* Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Oct 17. The first successful flight of i locally-made gyrocopter has been made at Muriwai Beach Mr E. Everson and his brother, Mr R. Everson, engineers, of Mount RoskilL spent about six months building the gyrocopter in their spare time.
The gyrocopter flew about 100 yards. Called the •Double E,” it is driven forward by a propeller powered by a 2i horsepower engine and is raised by 11-foot rotors. It should be able to travel comfortably at a speed of 10 miles an hour. It top speed will be about 40 miles an hour.
Mr E. Everson, who designed the gyrocopter, has no desire to see how fast he can travel. For the next few weeks the data compiled from tests will be assessed and adjustments made if necessary. The gyrocopter will not be used until considered perfect. The men have built three other planes, two of which crashed, and they have no intention of taking risks with the gyrocopter.
