The “St. Petersburg Independent,” a local newspaper, was given away free this afternoon under a standing offer made good every time the city goes through a 24hour period without any sunshine. Since the offer was first made in 1910 by a former publisher, Major Lew Brown, as a “challenge to the world to make good St. Petersburg's claim to being the 'sunshine city’,” the newspaper has been given away only 220 times.
