(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 14. President Sukarno named a new Army Commander today—anti-Com-munlst Major-General Suharto, who squashed the pro-Communist coup attempt.
General Suharto, who appears to be emerging as very strong, succeeds Major-Gen-eral Achmad Yani, who was killed by the pro-Communist rebels.
Dr. Sukarno, In statements made to the official news agency, Antara, and broadcast by Radio Djakarta, said that since Yani’s slaying he had controlled the Army. The appointment confirmed General Suharto’s rise to power since the coup attempt
