RADIO COVER FOR PARK
Arthur's Pass Plans
The Arthur’s Pass National Park Board plans to set up adequate radio facilities for its own work and for the additional safety of visitors to the area. The board’s decision was made after it heard a report by the chief ranger (Mr P. Croft) on the search for a man late last month who, though reported missing was not missing at all. Mr Croft said the main point about the incident was the ineffective radio, which failed to advise that the search had been cancelled.
“The time is soon approaching when a radio coverage of the park would be an advantage,” he said. “A base set at Arthur's Pass and a portable or vehicle set maintained on fixed frequency would prove valuable for a variety of work.”
The board will borrow radio sets from the Mount Cook board to conduct field trials before buying its own equipment.
