E1 Beka Breaks Down; Deladana Fit
Shakes. El Beka, and Gold Shower will miss their engagements at the Geraldine Racing Club's second spring meeting tomorrow.
Shakes was taken north last night and will run in the Wainui Handicap at Trentham. El Beka broke down in a gallop at Riccarton yesterday. He was to have run in the Gladstone Improvers’ Handicap at Orari.
Gold Shower will get opportunities closer to home at Labour week end.
A brilliant gallop by Deladana yesterday heightened interest in her return to racing after a spell in the Stewards' Handicap at Orari. Deladana reeled off half a mile on the No. 1 grass with her stablemates, Messmaid (Mein), and Mister Bud (F. 11. Skelton) in 47 3-ssec.
E G. Low, the race rider, rode Deladana in this very attractive run. Most of the fast work was done on the plough, which also gave fast footing. Among Orari candidates to shape well were Cranford. Hawkins, Status Symbol, and General Gilbert.
Status Svmboi (Hadfield) and General "Gilbert (Kerkoleit) sprinted six furlongs in Imin 19 3-ssec, the last four in 52sec. Hawkins (Swanson) recorded Imin 31 l-ssec for seven furlongs. He was accompanied by Coral Prince (Tucker) and Town Talk (Beck), and ran the last half-mile in 51sec.
Cranford (Low) and Walhalla (Bailey) dashed over half a mile in 50 l-ssec, the last three furlongs in 36sec. Gunga Din, which was taken north later in the day for racing at Trentham, ran seven furlongs in Imin 32 2-ssec. Cumberland and Marlow were not hurried over that distance. Thev took Imin 34 3-ssec.
