9 N.Z. Starters In Caulfield Cup

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE. Nine New Zealand-bred horses are included in the field of 20 for tomorrow’s £20,000 Caulfield Cup and another is the second of four emergencies for the big race.

One of those bred across the Tasman, Matlock, is included in the field although he was not fully qualified to run under conditions for the race.

There were 37 acceptors, but because of safety reasons, the field is restricted to 20 starters.

Twenty-four of the 37 had passed all qualifying ’ runs, and today the committee of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club eliminated five of them and used its discretionary powers to include Matloch in the field.
