Rainfall Excels In Trentham Gallop
“The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. Takanini horses provided the features of final trials at Trentham yesterday, Rainfall and Sobig when they ran separate trials brilliantly, and Farmer’s Boy when he was rather surprisingly beaten by his Wellington Guineas rival, the local hope, Kintyre.
Galloping was on the course proper, which was in good order with the sting out. If there is no change in the weather the going will be firm for tomorrow.
Rainfall (Raklander), without looking like extending herself, ran three furlongs in 35sec and was under a hold at the finish. She looks in excellent order and is now a strong prospect for the Shorts Handicap, the second leg of the T.A.B. double.
Sobig (Hughes) was almost as impressive. He went six furlongs, the last four in 50sec and the last three in 37 l-ssec. Sobig was loafing during part of the trial. Racing and work •re improving him and he will probably be favourite for the Wainui Handicap. Plush (Treweek) and Lucky Rebel (Dodds) were together •fter five furlongs, the last four in 50 l-ssec and the three in 36 4-ssec. Plush appeared to be doing the better and has come along well since her Hastings race, the first since a •pell.
Kintyre (Jones) made the pace for Vogel Bloem (Raklander) and Farmer's Boy (Hughes) from the five furlongs. Farmer's Boy made a sharp move in the straight, but Kintyre went ■gain to beat him by a length, with four lengths to Vogel Bloem. Kintyre ran the last half-mile in 49 l-ssec and the three furlongs in 36 l-ssec. Neither the trainer, R. C. Verner, nor the jockey was worried about Farmer's Boy's beating and they expect the gallop to clean him up. Even •o, Kintyre looked good. Ran Together
Even Chance (Cullen) went with Jester Jinks (Drummond) over an easy four furlongs, the last three in 38sec with Even Chance, which looks well, doing the better.
Gold Ruth (Doell) started quietly from the five furlongs •nd ran the last three without any effort in 37 4-ssec. She finished fast at Masterton after losing her place. Krazikid (Hughes) and Royal Encounter (Cullen) galloped three furlongs in 37 2-ssec. and Naneda (A. T. Jones) ran half a mile freely in 52sec The last three furlongs in 38 l-ssec. Sharab (Raklander) was not asked to go fast, so her 38sec
for three furlongs was good time.
Shipmate (Stokes) was galloping at the five furlongs and came from the four in 51 4-ssec and the three in 38sec. The long-striding sprinter travelled smoothly all the way. His stablemate. Pharasal (Stokes), going easily early, came from the three furlongs in 38sec. Two other stablemates, Hushaway (Cullen) and Caprino (Stokes), galloped five furlongs, the last four in 52sec and the three in 38sec, with Hushaway doing the better. Even Race Royal Bid (Mrs Clutterbuck) went at an even pace over one mile, but speeded slightly over the last three furlongs in 38 3-ssec. Royal Ransom (Raklander) and Selwyn (Cullen) were together after a mile in Imin 4Ssec, the last three furlongs in 40 4-ssec. It was a good time for hurdlers. Royal Ransome, on the inner, was doing the better.
Watchet (Cullen) and Tracey’s Comet (Mrs Clutterbuck) started quietly at the mile, but were galloping only from the half. Watchet, under a good hold, went well clear and completed in 51sec, the last three furlongs in 38sec. Carnmor (T. G. Stokes) ran three furlongs under a good hold in 37sec. Stokes has found that Carnmor, like his dam. Chattandoes, best without long, fast gallops.
