Obituary CANON H. K. ’ VICKERY
(N.Z. Prtss Azzodation) AUCKLAND, October 13. The Rev. Canon H. K. Vickery, who served for 47 years with the Flying Angel Missions to Seamen, died in Christ’s Hospital, Selwyn Village, today, aged 80. Canon Vickery was one of the few Anglican clergymen made a Justice of the Peace. He was born at Ararat, Victoria. He came to Auckland as chaplain in 1928. He was senior chaplain in the New Zealand hospital ship, Maunganui, during World War 11. He was made a canon in 1945, and received the M.B.E. in 1949. Since his retiremnt in 1950, he had held relieving posts in Singapore, Colombo, Adelaide and Melbourne, and had served as honorary chaplain in the immigrant ships Atlantis and Captain Cook. He served eight years in the RJLN.VJR. and 28 years in the R.N.Z.N.VJR.
