BALLOON FLIGHTS

One Planned From Chch. (N.I. Press Aitoclation) WELLINGTON. Oct 14. Two German balloonists arrived in Wellington last evening to make the first balloon flight in New Zealand for 50 years. They are the pilot Mr H. Scheed, and co-pilot Mr A. Schultz, who live near Lake Constance in southern Germany.

Mr Scheed, who has been flying balloons for seven years, will make his sixtyfifth flight at Lower Hutt on Saturday. He began flying balloons to raise money for a children’s society. The Post Office has allowed the men to cany mail in the balloon on their three New Zealand flights. This will be the first carriage of New Zealand mail by balloon. The balloon also will fly at Auckland on October 23 and from Christchurch on November 7.

Proceeds from the flights will be given to the Plunket Society.

Anniversaries. Salvation Army Carps in Christchurch will celebrate their annual Sunday School anniversaries at the week-end. Children will present a concert tomorrow evening and will take a prominent part in services on Sunday.
