Two Quick Goals Diminish Scots’ World Cup Hopes
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) GLASGOW. Poland snatched a surprise 2-1 win over Scotland last night in a World Cup Soccer qualifying match. The Scots, who led 1-0 at half-time, had drawn 1-1 when the teams met in Poland last May.
The crowd of 75,000 at Hampden Park was getting , ready to cheer a Scotland victory when the home side was still leading, 1-0, five minutes from the end. But Poland scored two goals in two minutes to grab vic!tory. Defeat was a big blow toScotland's hopes of qualifying for the finals next July,
Italy and Scotland both have five points at the top of group eight, but the Italians have played only three games to Scotland's four. The two teams have still to meet in home and away matches, in Italy on November 9 and Scotland. December 7. Italy also has to play Poland in Italy. Seven Now Qualified In Lima.
