Queensland Surf Team’s Visit

The Queensland State surf team will visit Christchurch on January 2-3, according to a report tabled at the forty-ninth annual general meeting of the Canterbury Surf Life-saving Association last evening.

Mr J. A. Lee, the association’s chief instructor, said he could not be definite about which day the Australians would arrive.

Four Canterbury carnivals will be held during the summer; on December 12, January 23, February 6 and February 20. The North Beach Jubilee carnival will be held on November 27. A motion that the first three Canterbury carnivals be held at Waimairi Beach was lost, heavily. Easier For Clubs

Mr Lee said this would be easier for the clubs if all the carnivals were held at one

•beach. The buoys could be set out more conveniently and the gear kept together.

“Each year, three of the carnivals at least should be held on one beach.” said Mr Lee. “The association would probably have to recompense the club concerned. “I am a member of Waimairi and on the carnival subcommittee. but I did not know anything about this,” said Mr M. Stevens.

“This is unfair to the other clubs and means that some club members will have to do a lot of travelling.” A motion: “That the dates be approved and the venues be left for the next meeting of the C.S.L.S.A. to confirm,” was passed without dissent. Made Life Member Mr D. M. Richardson was appointed a life-member of the association and Mr R. E. Russell was awarded • service award blazer. Officers elected were:—
