Broadcasts Of Racing

Sir, —Until the beginning of October listeners in Nelson and outer districts have been able to hear race commentaries over station 3YA. Now it is impossible to hear them as 3ZB is practically impossible to hear up here in the daytime. Why the change from 3YA to 3ZB?—Yours, etc., REGULAR LISTENER.

October 7, 1965. [The district manager of the N.Z.B.C. (Mr K. M. Hay) said: “The transfer of racing and trotting broadcasts from non-commerciai to commercial stations in dual station areas was made in order to meet public demand for wider coverage of doubles and feature race commentaries. Now, doubles races from up to four meetings on any one day, together with selected feature rac.s, are broadcast on the commercial network. Previously these commentaries were heard only in the regions from which they were originated." |
