CHURCHILL PRIZE
£5OOO Offered Ry Publisher
The £5OOO Winston Spencer Churchill literary award, given by Cassell and Company, of London, is the largest prize ever offered by a publisher in England. It will be given biennially in addition to the normal advance and royalties payable under the standard form of agreement.
As the award commemorates Sir Winston Churchill chiefly as a historial writer, it will be made for original, previously-unpublished work on any aspect of the history of English-speaking peoples, written expressly in book form.
I The award is open to entrants under 40 of any nationality, provided the work is originally written in English The first judges will be Dr C. V. Wedgwood, the historian and author: Mr F. W. Deakin a former “historical adviser" to Sir Winston Churchill and now warden of St. Antony’s College, Oxford: and Dr. J. H. Plumb, reader in modern English history at Cambridge University. Manuscripts entered for the first award must be submitted by November 30. 1966 the anniversary of Sir Winston Churchill’s birth. The first award will be announced in the English summer of 1967 and publication of the winning book will be in the English spring of 1968. The author of any work sub mitted must agree to its oublication by Cassell, if recommended by the judges whether it wins or not.
