Journalists’ Fears On Submissions
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 14. The New Zealand Journalists’ Association in a telegram today to the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said it hoped the Government had not prejudged submissions to the Statutes Revision Committee on the News Media Ownership Bill.
The association was referring to the Prime Minister's reported statement on Tuesday night that there was no intention of holding the bill over until next year. At the time of the statement the committee was still hearing submissions on the bill. Submissions were completed yesterday. The text of the telegram is: ‘This association seeks clarification of your statement of October 12 ‘No intention of holding news media ownership bill over until next year.' Earnestly hope this does not
imply that Government has ignored established parliamentary procedures and prejudged submissions still being considered by Statutes Revision Committee at time of your statement.”
