Churchill’s Home To Be Auctioned
(NZ. Press Association —Copyright; LONDON, Oct. 13. No. 2 Hyde Park Gate, London, the home of Sir Winston Churchill, is expected to sell for between £90,000 and £lOO,OOO when it is auctioned on October 29.
London real estate experts made this prediction after the announcement that the house was up for sale. The house, a mellowed brick residence, is almost as well known in Britain as No. 10 Downing Street, the home 2 of British Prime Ministers. Sir Winston Churchill moved into the house during the war and died on a ground floor room overlooking his garden on January 24. Friends of the Churchill family say there have been
several Americans who have made inquiries about the house and indicated an interest in buying it. The furniture will not be sold with the -house, but the buyer will get the many splendid rose bushes he jjlanted in the garden. The sale catalogue says the house is of mellowed brickwork, low built with a semibasement, an entrance hall, main hall, and graceful curved staircase. There is a drawing-room with a window overlooking the walled garden, an ante-room or study used as a waiting room.
There are two principal bedroom suites. In the basement the accommodation includes a servery, kitchen, scullery, larder, pantry, staff sitting room, butler’s pantry, wine cellar, with a butler’s bedroom, another bedroom and a bathroom.
