Official Report And Range Of Prices

The official report on yesterday’s sale issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Associa tion, m conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission says: "At the second sale of the 1965-66 wool season, an offering of 23,016 bales was submitted by four selling brokers. The wool was mainly drawn from the Canterbury and Marlborough districts, and in the main opened up in good condition, being robustly grown and sound and with a number of attractive lots, although a proportion of the offering was inclined to be short in staple. "There were, however, a num ber of lines showing a degree of yolk stain, and a percentage carrying light to medium dust Piece wools were about up to the average with only a comparatively few lines showing the presence of mud. Halfbred and Romney wools made up the bulk of the offering, with a few lines of Merino. A fair number of woolly hoggets were also in eluded, but only a small quantity of shorn hoggets and sec ond-shear. The condition of the wool was generally slightly heavier than at the previous sale.

"The sale opened strongly with keen competition, especially from the Far East and also the Continent, who again dominated the market. Bradford was comparatively quiet and America was in the market for wools suited to their require ments. 'Local mills took some of the best fine wools "As compared with the second day’s sale in Dunedin prices were generally in sellers' fav our, especially for Merinos, stronger halfbreds and skirtings. Growers met the market well and only occasional lots were passed at auction." The following is the official
