Coal Use Favoured

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 5. The United States, Britain and many European countries have swung back to the use of coal and New Zealand would be foolish to ignore their example, the chairman of Waikato Carbonisation, Ltd., Mr C. M. Tennent, said today at a three-day seminar in Auckland for boiler operators. “I understand that every ton of coal used saves this country £3 10s in overseas funds,” he said. By maximum use of New Zealand’s large supplies of coal valuable overseas funds could be conserved for buying other fuels, said Mr Tennent. The coal industry could not afford to sit back. To retain present users and attract new customers, everyone in the industry from the coal-face to the boiler grate must aim for maximum service and highest quality, he said.
