A MASSIVE CLAY IMAGE of the Hindu god. Ganapati, noted for his elephant-like appearance, being immersed by devotees in the Arabian Sea at Bombay. Custom prescribes that each year new images of the god of auspiciousness be made, worshipped for about 10 days, and then immersed in water. The garland of flowers near the right eye of the brightly-coloured deity has been thrown by a devotee taking part in the immersion ceremony.
