GARDEN CLUB

Spring Flower

Show

The spring flower show of the Redcliffs-Sumner Garden Club, opened by Mr J. Fiecken, made a colourful display at Sumner Community Centre. The judges, Mesdames E. W. Seque and D. W. Clarkson, had a difficult job judging the entries in the decorative, cut flowers, and pot plant sections while Mr Fiecken judged the vegetables. There was a large attendance and the sales table and plant stall did excellent business. Afternoon tea was served at floral decorative tables.

Representatives from many garden clubs in Christchurch and outlying districts were the guests of the club.

Winners of most points were:—-Decorative: Mrs M. France, with premier award: runners-up, Mesdames A. B. Cullen and R. W. Archer. Cut flowers: Mesdames D. B. Robinson, G. Battson and Miss M. Wickens, with premier award. Pot plants: Miss M. Wickens; runners-up, Mesdames L. E. Smith, with premier award, and N. G. Mitchell. Vegetables: Mesdames D. P. Pool, J. Higgins and Miss M. Wickens, with premier award. The cup for most points in all classes was awarded to Miss M. Wickens, and presented by Mrs E. Whitfield.
