FERRYMEAD BRIDGE

New Location Approved

A new site for the Ferrymead bridge approximately on the location of the original bridge downstream from the existing structure was approved by the Christchurch City Council last evening. The council agreed that detailed plans should be prepared, with the idea that a contract could be let in the present financial year. The works committee said the estimates provided for £6OOO to be spent on renewal of the bridge this year. This was a small portion of the total cost, which would be spread over three yea.s.
