Lack Of Comfort

Panties which are too short at the back caused some concern at the national council meeting of the Dominion Federation of Townswomen’s Guilds yesterday. “If you are an O.S. fitting and on limited means you cannot afford comfortable panties, it seems to me,” said Mrs A. Stephenson (Auckland). The subject was raised for discussion by the Auckland area federation. Most manufacturers were only interested in standard fittings, said Mrs Stephenson, who is Dominion social discussions officer. In higher-priced ranges it was possible to buy a well-tailored, well-fitting

garment, but the cheaper lines of panties were too short in the back for bigger women, she said.

It seemed incredible that Auckland women could not get pants to fit them, said another Auckland delegate, Mrs F. I. Cross. “I have two suggestions to make,” she said. “Either find a pair that does fit and see that other manufacturers 'get with it’ and make more, or send to the Mainland for panties with a really good-fitting crutch.” It was decided to approach the New Zealand Manufacturers' Association to ‘ request the production of women’s panties with a longer rise at the back.
