MANGERE AIRPORT
Opening By Governor (N.Z. Press Attociation) AUCKLAND, September 16. The Auckland international airport at Mangere will be officially opened on January 29 by the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson). Sir Bernard Fergusson and Lady Fergusson will fly to Auckland from Dunedin to attend the opening ceremony. Sir Bernard Fergusson's acceptance of an invitation to perform the ceremony w-s announced today by t'-« chairman of the Auc’’!- ' Regional Authority (T’r D " Robinson) at a meeting rf the authority airport comm ttee.
Mr Robinson said later he had been advised other engagements prevented the Duke of Edinburgh attending the opening. Because the date of the opening could not be changed it was also impossible to arrange for Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, to open the airport when she came to New Zealand.
