CLOSER TO HER DREAM
Christine Antunovic, of New Plymouth, gets a little nearer to realising a nine-year-old dream as she tries on the smart new hat of an Air New Zealand flight hostess. Christine got the feel of the uniform when she paid her third visit to the airline’s head office in Auckland. Christine is a girl with one ambition —to be a hostess for Air New Zealand.
At the age of 12 Christine visited Auckland on holiday and introduced herself to the assistant general manager, Captain J. R. McGrane.
She returned a year later
and was shown over an Electra at Whenuapai. On her last holidays from New Plymouth Girls’ High School, in August Christine called on the airline again and was shown the new hat which hostesses will wear when DCBs come on to Air New Zealand routes next month. Christine will not be 16 till January—and she cannot apply for a hostess position until she is 21. In the meantime, she is not sitting back idly. She has already complied with one of the airline’s regulations and is now the holder of a first-aid certificate.
