Baptist Crusade
Sir,—The crusade of American ministers in the country at present is something similar to the Billy Graham crusade we had some years ago. I saw the Billy Graham rally in Madison Square, New York, and also the crusade in Los Angeles a little over two years ago. To me it seemed more like a form of hysteria, and something that does not last—certainly not the kind of Christianity most people look for. I would say the cost will be quite £BO,OOO, including extensive advertising, and I would think the money will have to be collected in New Zealand. Surely these ministers would have been better advised to do something about the Negro question in their own country and to see that those living close to Long Beach have reasonable, decent living quarters. I have travelled a lot in America, and know the place where the recent riots started.—Yours, etc., TOLERANCE. September 13, 1965.
