Lace Blossoms Everywhere and Fashion looks at Summer through Rose Tinted Spectacles

A Ciprian

Our young model, appreciating the golden glow of her first daffodil, is wearing a typical Mary Quant dress, a “with-it” fashion, expressed in crisp White cluny lace. It has the hallmarks of this world famous designer of ‘mod’ fashions the wide, bare neckline, framed by a beguilingly youthful round collar; tight, turn back cuffs ending the long, narrow sleeves, and the slightly wider hemline dramatised by the scallops of the lace.

This year lace touches every aspect of fashion for Spring and Summer. Lace adds importance to cottons and synthetics; to linen; to lace; to crepe; to chiffon, and lace on-its-own is secure in the pre-eminence it has won. You'll find blouses of lace and little lace jackets, with attached hoods, to slip over daring new swim suits with wool lace inserts. Even shoes are touched by lace. And everywhere you will see Pink... every depth of Pink and all its variations. Whisper Pink, Petal Pink, Deep Vibrant Pinks, almost on the verge of Crimson; Pinks that flow into Orange tones and Pinks blended with flower bed colours in infinite variety... with White holding its own as always. All the fashions shown in our photographs are available at Beaths.

On the right: In Whisper Pink, an ensemble by La Femme. The long coat of cobweb-fine lace, mounted on silk organza plays up the scalloped edging of the all-over lace with a gentle emphasis. It is worn over a dress of matching espacel crepe. Perfect for the bride who prefers a quiet wedding, this exclusive model could also be the choice of a smart mother-of-the-bride at a big church ceremony.

Above we show how this year’s fashions subtly reveal a shapely silhouette. The shift has gone, but it has left a legacy of easy lines, following, but not defining the shape.

Top left is an exclusive dress in Japonica Pink Linen, a model by “Miss Deb.” The Empire bodice is overlaid by fine White lace, and a camellia is a romantic touch worn at the centre of the wide spreading collar of double White organdy.

On the right 1$ a more sophisticated after-five dress, a skimmer of all over lace, in glowing Tangerine, mounted on a matching satin slip. Chiffon in the same toning is used for the double flared cuffs on the bracelet length sleeves. Note the high, wide neckline, bound with chiffon and ending in a self bow with long streamers.

The perfect White suit, shown left, is the perennial favourite, no matter what colour becomes high fashion for the current season. A short sleeved jumper in fine White lace is worn under the jacket, which features the plunging Chelsea collar, and the slightly squared shoulder line, a trend to take note of. In suit weight linen, an exclusive model by La Femme.
