X/ To Play Canterbury
Seven of the Eastern Suburbs team that won the Chatham Cup final at Wellington last week-end have been included in the Auckland soccer eleven to defend the English F.A. trophy against Canterbury at Newmarket Park, Auckland, on Saturday. The seven comprise both backs, two of the three halves and three of the five forwards. In addition, another Eastern Suburbs’ player is named as one of the two reserves. The team is:—
A. Stroud (Mt. Wellington); B. Pugh, F. Dubber (Eastern Suburbs); M. Seed (Birkenhead), T. McNab, P. Rennell; J. Legg, J. Wrathall, T. Pugh (Eastern Suburbs), G. Lamont (Mt. Wellington), B. Leuschke (Mt. Roskill). Reserves: A. Cooney (Ponsonby). T. Moore (Eastern Suburbs).
Among the prominent players missing are the world tourists, J. G. Kemp, B. Ormond and K. Armstrong, none of whom was available. Legg. Lamont and Leuschke were members of the under-23 team that recently played in Christchurch; Rennell is a former Canterbury representative.
