Dr. Craven Awards University Blues

A sportsman needs a series of setbacks before rising to the very top, said Dr. D. H. Craven, president of the South African Rugby Board, when awarding the University Blues at the awards dinner of the University Canterbury Students’ Association last evening. Doctor Craven outlined the elements which went towards the creation of a great sportsman, before awarding the blues.

“Everyone must have something tangible for which to strive.” said Dr. Craven. “The

self does not matter. It is something greater than the self —family, friends, country —which is needed to bring out the best.” Sport and the university went together, said Professor J. C. Garrett.
