TERMS FOR TOUR

‘N.Z. Must Re Firm’ (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 6. New Zealand should tell South Africa that it must accept an All Black team on New Zealand’s terms or not at all, said the chairman of the Citizens’ Association for Racial Equality (Mr H. H. Innes) tonight.

Mr Innes expressed sympathy toward the Springbok team and officials for being placed ip an uneviable position.

“We urge that these young players should continue to be treated with the courtesy that all visitors can expect from New Zealand,” he said. “Dr. Verwoerd states in the plainest terms that the continuation of Rugby contacts between New Zealand and South Africa must be at the expense of our Maori people. From now on our association will resist to the utmost any move to sabotage our national integrity by a surrender to this dogma.

“A possible classification of Maori players as ‘honorary whites’ would only add insult to injury. “New Zealand should be the hammer and not the anvil. South Africa should be told just as plainly that it must accept an All Black team on our terms or not at all.”
