STAGGERED POLLING

Experiment In Two Centres (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept 3. Experiments on polling procedures at the local body elections next month are authorised under the Local Elections and Polls (Experimental Procedures) Order, 1965, issued today. Polling in the elections for the Havelock North and Stratford Borough Councils will begin on October 4 and end on October 9, polling day for rest of the country. Booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Thursday, to 9 p.m. on Friday and to 7 p.m on Saturday. The booths can be closed at meal periods. In addition postal votes only can be taken in eleations for the Coromandel, Egmont, Franklin, Kiwitea, Mackenzie, Malvern, Patangata, Rangitikei and Taupo County Councils. ' The same procedure applies to any other poll the returning officer of the counties has to conduct. Every person on the roll in these areas will receive not later than October 1, voting papers together with a stamped and addressed envelope.
