Australian Wins Singles Title

(New Zealand Press Association! WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. The Australian champion, C. McDonald, had to work hard to beat the former New Zealand champion, M. L. Dunn (Auckland), in the final of the men’s singles at the national table tennis championships in Wellington tonight.

! McDonald, after winning i the first two sets, 22-20. 21-17. looked poised for a straight set win but Dunn played some almost unbelievable backhand shots to win the next two, 21-14, 21-16. McDonald’s powerful forehand smashes gave him the advantage in the last game, which he won, 21-18. Northland’s national chainpion, Mrs N. Traill, retained her women’s singles title when she beat her teammate, Miss N. J. Attwood. 23-21, 21-13, 21-17.
