WHIM WHAM)
Written in Dejection after a Perusal of certain contributions to the arts of advertising and English Prose. People used to live in Houses When I was a Child Houses of various Shapes and Sizes, Variously styled. There was the Cottage, the Bung., The ‘Gentleman’s Residence’ The Last-named indicating some Degree Of Affluence. But a House was what People called Their domestic Base It was careless, if not positively vulgar, To talk about ‘our’ Place. Of course, then as now, a mere Dwelling Was All very well But not where Anyone actually and willingly Would care to DWELL. People don’t live in Houses any More, They All have Homes Some have Parklike Surroundings, and Some only Lawns with Gnomes. You don’t go to see People, it’s their Homes They want You to see I suppose People are very much the Same As They used to be It’s only the Cant of the Land Agents, And THAT’S not novel Sir, in my Chinese Fashion, dare I beg You to drop in At this Eyesore, my HOVEL?
