NOT “GOOD TIME” TOUR
Snell Offers Explanation (N.Z. Press Association) DANNEVIRKE, Sept. 3. A statement by the coach. Mr A. L. Lydiard, that “I apparently lost interest in my racing during my world tour,” could convey a wrong meaning, P. G. Snell said in Dannevirke yesterday. Snell was commenting on a statement made by Mr Lydiard in a report to the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association on the tour of Snell, J. L. Davies and W. D. Baillie. He said he was sure Mr Lydiard had not meant “I could not care less about my racing and was only over there for a good time.” “I maintained a conscientious approach to my racing all the way through the tour,” Snell said.
“By loss of interest in my racing, I’m sure Mr Lydiard meant I was not gaining any pleasure from the performance I was putting up.”
